DPHR ATTENDS INAUGURATION OF ANTI-GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE CLUB AT LADIGBOLU GRAMMAR SCHOOL, OYO

Sequel to the bi-monthly discourse on anti-gender-based
violence organized by JDPM and sponsored by the European
Union (EU) under the EU Support to Democratic Governance in Nigeria (EU-SDGN) Programme Phase II Project,
the participant agreed to establish an Anti- Gender Based
Club in secondary schools with the intention of improving school-community
understanding of gender-based violence (GBV) and reducing or eliminating GBV
in schools.

Guess what? Ladigbolu Grammar School, Oyo, inaugurated the
Anti-Gender-Based Violence Club on March 6, 2024. At the inauguration,
Mrs. V. Bosede Adeoye gave a short lecture that highlighted some root
causes of GBV and emphasized the urgent need to stop its spread in schools
and society through wide awareness-raising and sensitization. The teacher
facilitator in charge, Mrs. Adeyemo Tope Joy, moderated the election of the leaders of the club. A girl emerged as the first president of the club, while a boy was elected secretary.

The Principal appreciated members of the club and urged club members to be good ambassadors who will not contravene respect for individuals irrespective of gender. Mrs. O.A. Oluokun gave a good-will message at the occasion.

DEMOCRACY AND GOOD GOVERNANCE (DGG)

The Democracy and Good Governance Initiative (DGGI) evolve in 19 LGAs of the JDPM Oyo coverage areas which include Oyo, Ogbomoso and Oke-Ogun through series of interventions led by Politics and Human Rights (PHR) of JDPM a decade ago.

The platform evolved to advocate for good governance and increase citizen participation in governance through the mobilization of the citizenry for constructive activism, positive advocacy and penetrating civic engagement.

The platform carried out this through the operational strategy of Neighborhoods Initiative for Civic Engagement Promotion (NICE-P), a nonprofit and non-discriminatory group made up of diverse segments of the society unified by common aspirations which are community organizations and development, formally known as Civil Coalition for Good Governance (CCGG) in order to bring desirable social change into the society.

The DGG Unit of PHR provides technical assistance to the organization through training on different strategies of civic engagements, budget tracking, budget monitoring and budget analysis with a view of providing the necessary platform for strategic engagement. NICE-P is a classic example of a pyramid organization which feeds from the community to Ward level to the local government level, Zonal level and State levels. Each of these levels is elected executives which provide direction and leadership for the organization
